At Sum^It Education, we’re passionate about helping Wollongong students succeed in maths. With personalised support, expert teaching, and proven programs, we give every learner the tools and confidence to achieve their goals.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to help students build confidence, strengthen their mathematical foundations, and achieve long-term success. Every learner is different, so we tailor our tutoring to meet their unique needs.

Our Expertise

With over 20 years as a qualified maths teacher, we bring classroom expertise and personal attention together. Whether in small groups or one-on-one lessons, students get the focused guidance they need.

Tutoring Options

We offer flexible formats: small group sessions and personalised one-on-one tutoring. Each approach is designed to help students catch up, consolidate, or extend their skills.

Our Programs

Our core programs include Small Group Sessions, Individual Tutoring, and the “Get Ahead, Stay Ahead” Year 11 Program starting in Term 4 of Year 10 to prepare students for senior school success.

Meet the Teacher

Teaching maths is more than a job—it’s a passion. Our goal is always to help students see that maths is not about memorising formulas, but about developing problem-solving skills, clarity, and confidence.

At the heart of Sum^It Education is Shane Rodgers, a qualified mathematics teacher with over 20 years of classroom and tutoring experience. Unlike many tutoring services that rely on university students or casual tutors, Sum^It Education is led by a professional educator who understands the NSW curriculum, assessment standards, and the challenges local students face at every level.

Over two decades,
 Shane Rodgers has :

  • Taught across a wide range of year groups, from early high school through to Year 12.
  • Supported students preparing for their HSC in Mathematics Standard, Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2.
  • Helped struggling learners rebuild confidence and gain a passion for mathematics
  • Supported high-achieving students extend their abilities, achieving a significant number of Band 6s, in both Standard and Advanced as well as E4’s in both Extension 1 and Extension 2.
  • Worked closely with Wollongong families, tailoring support to the unique needs of the community.

Our Approach

At Sum˄It Education, we go beyond grades with personalised teaching, a supportive environment, and strong foundations — helping every student build confidence and independence.

Student-centred lessons designed to meet individual needs

We begin by understanding where each student is academically and emotionally. Lessons are designed to close gaps while building on strengths, ensuring each learner feels progress is possible and measurable.

A supportive environment that builds resilience

Students learn best when they feel safe to make mistakes and ask questions. We create an environment where challenges are encouraged and setbacks are reframed as opportunities for growth.

Foundation-focused learning for long-term progress

We don’t just push through new content—we ensure students master the basics first. Strong foundations make advanced topics less intimidating and far more manageable over time.

Encouraging clarity and independence in every learner

Our goal is to help students become independent thinkers. By teaching problem-solving strategies and breaking down complex concepts, we help students approach maths with confidence long after the tutoring session ends.

Our Core Values

Our values guide everything we do at Sum^It Education. They reflect our commitment to students, parents, and the Wollongong community.

Clarity

We believe maths doesn’t have to be confusing. Through structured explanations and step-by-step guidance, we give students the clarity they need to finally “get it.”

Confidence

By encouraging progress and celebrating effort, we help students build the confidence they need to approach maths with a positive mindset.

Effort

We teach students that success isn’t about being “naturally good” at maths—it’s about consistent effort. With the right support, every student can improve.

Growth

Our focus is long-term development. Whether a student needs to catch up, keep pace, or get ahead, we nurture growth in both ability and resilience.

Our Philosophy

At the heart of Sum^It Education is the belief in achievement through effort. We know that improvement doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistent guidance and persistence, every student can make progress. More than improved marks, we aim to instill resilience, clarity, and a love of learning that benefits students across every subject and stage of life.
